Lalonde Named to NHL Central Scouting Preliminary Rankings

Belleville Bulls defenceman Shawn Lalonde has been rated as the 20th best OHL prospect for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in preliminary rankings released by NHL Central Scouting on Wednesday. NHL Central Scouting will release mid-term and final rankings later this season that will include all North American prospects.

Lalonde is currently in his second season with the Bulls, and sits second on the team in defenceman scoring with two goals and eight points in 18 games. The smooth skating native of Orleans, Ontario was the Bulls first round pick in the 2006 OHL Priority Selection. Last season, Lalonde enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, scoring six times while adding 20 assists and 71 penalty minutes in 58 games. He also had a goal and an assist in 13 playoff games. Following the season, Lalonde was named the Bulls Co-Rookie of the Year with Eric Tangradi.

This August, Lalonde represented Team Canada at the Under 18 2007 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament held in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He had a very strong tournament for Canada, finishing third on the team and first among defencemen in scoring with a goal and three assists in four games, as Canada finished fourth in the tournament. Lalonde also added 16 penalty minutes to finish tied for the team lead in that category.
