Four Bulls Named to Eastern Conference All-Star Team
An Eastern Conference high four Belleville Bulls were named to the Eastern Conference All-Star roster on Tuesday. Matt Beleskey, Shawn Matthias, Mike Murphy, and P.K. Subban are among the 40 players that will participate in the 2008 OHL All-Star Classic being held February 5-6 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The two day event includes the OHL All-Star Skills Competition and Three-on-Three Game on February 5, along with the All-Star Luncheon and OHL All-Star Classic on February 6. It is the first all-star selection for each of the four Bulls players. Bulls General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett is part of the management team that selected the Eastern Conference All-Star roster.

Beleskey is enjoying an outstanding season to date for the Bulls, as he leads the team in goals with 28 and sits second in points with 55. He also leads the team with an impressive +23 rating. The Bulls Captain has been red hot as of late, recording 13 goals and 20 points in his past 13 games. This is the second special event Beleskey has participated in this season after playing for the OHL in the ADT Canada Russia Challenge in November.

The All-Star nod is another accomplishment in a terrific season thus far for Matthias after having already won a gold medal with Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships where he recorded five points in seven games. He also participated in the ADT Canada Russia Challenge in November. Matthias currently leads the Bulls in scoring with 21 goals and 58 points in just 32 games. The Mississauga, Ontario native still sits tenth in league scoring despite missing nearly a month of play due to the World Juniors.

Murphy is enjoying a breakthrough season with the Bulls after taking over the starting role in goal for Belleville this year. Murphy holds an impressive 22-5-2-1 record while recording one shutout. He currently leads the OHL in goals against average at 2.26 along with save percentage at .932. The Inverary, Ontario native sits third in the league in victories and is on pace to break the Bulls all-time single season record for wins in a season.

Subban joins Matthias as one of the ten members of Team Canada’s World Junior Hockey Championship gold medal winning squad on the OHL All-Star team. He also participated in the ADT Canada Russia Challenge earlier this season in Sudbury. Subban currently ranks second on the Bulls and among the top fifteen overall in OHL defenceman scoring with six goals and 23 assists in 32 games played.
