Matt Beleskey Wins Jake Gilmour Memorial Award
Belleville Bulls Captain Matt Beleskey was named the winner of the 2007-2008 Jake Gilmour Memorial Award in a ceremony held prior to the Bulls game against the Oshawa Generals on Wednesday night. Last season Beleskey shared the award with then Bulls Captain Andrew Gibbons. The award is named in honour of former Bulls forward Jake Gilmour, who passed away in November, 2005.
Bulls’ fans vote on the award annually based on the player who best demonstrated the qualities shown by Gilmour while he was a member of the Bulls. Those qualities are as follows, pride in the Belleville Bulls jersey, passion for the game, respect for teammates and opponents, and a mutual respect with the fans. Bulls’ fans voted in record numbers to give Beleskey the award this season. Jake’s mother Rose was on hand to present the award to Beleskey.

Beleskey is now finishing his fourth season with the Bulls and is a consummate leader both on and off the ice. He currently leads the Bulls in goals, points, and penalty minutes and is poised to become just the second player in club history to lead the team in all three of those categories in a single season. In 60 games with Belleville this season, Beleskey has recorded 40 goals and 87 points while adding 106 penalty minutes. He also now ranks in the top ten all-time in regular season games played, goals, and penalty minutes with Belleville. The Midhurst, Ontario native also represented the Bulls at the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge and the OHL All-Star Classic earlier this season.
Along with his exploits on the ice, Beleskey has been a star off the ice as well. He has been involved in numerous community programs and events throughout the season including school visits and involvement in the Big Brothers mentorship program.
